About This Rug
Large freehand diamonds in navy, black, mustard, sage, rust and blush float on an ivory ground, with small checkered blocks scattered between them, like a page of sketches. Each motif is drawn by eye, so the rug feels relaxed rather than ordered. It suits a boho or Scandinavian living room, a bedroom with white linen, or a reading corner, and it ties together a room that already has a few colours. The photos show the rug this design comes from, on our workshop floor in Morocco. Yours is hand-knotted to order from washed natural sheep's wool in 4–6 weeks, so the motifs will be placed by hand and vary a little; before it ships we send you photos of your finished rug to approve. Craft story
Azilal rugs are named after the Azilal province in Morocco's High Atlas, where weavers knot bright, freehand motifs onto a pale wool ground. The motifs are placed by eye rather than from a fixed chart, so no two rugs are exactly alike. This one is hand-knotted to order by a woman weaver in the network of more than forty artisans we work with in Morocco.
Care
Vacuum regularly on low suction without the beater bar, and keep the vacuum off the fringe. Blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth; do not rub. Turn the rug every few months so it wears and fades evenly. For a deep clean, use a professional cleaner who works with wool. A few loose fibers are normal in the first weeks of a new wool rug.
