About This Rug
This is the Beni Ourain design most people picture first: an ivory field of natural wool crossed by a lattice of black diamonds. The lines are knotted by hand, so they lean and wander a little, which keeps a graphic pattern from feeling stiff. Black and white works with almost any interior. Under a sofa it anchors a neutral living room; in a bedroom it adds contrast to pale linens; under a dining table it frames the chairs without competing with the wood. For most living rooms, an 8×10 or 9×12 lets the front legs of the furniture rest on the rug. Hand-knotted from washed natural sheep's wool and colored with natural dyes, it has a pile of about 3–4 cm (1.2–1.6 in) that feels soft and dense underfoot. Craft story
Beni Ourain rugs come from the tribes of Morocco's Middle Atlas, who wove thick wool rugs to sleep on and keep warm through long mountain winters. This rug follows that tradition: it is hand-knotted, one knot at a time, by a woman weaver in the network of more than forty artisans we work with in Morocco, then washed and finished by hand.
Care
Vacuum regularly on low suction without the beater bar, and keep the vacuum off the fringe. Blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth; do not rub. Turn the rug every few months so it wears and fades evenly. For a deep clean, use a professional cleaner who works with wool. A few loose fibers are normal in the first weeks of a new wool rug.
