Need another size, or other colors?

Every rug can be woven to your size, from 2 × 3 ft up to 13.1 × 19.6 ft (60 × 90 to 400 × 600 cm), priced by area. Most designs can also be woven in the colors you choose.

What makes a Moroccan Berber rug

Moroccan rugs are woven by Amazigh (Berber) women, a craft passed down from mother to daughter for centuries. Each region has its own look: the thick ivory pile and dark lattices of Beni Ourain rugs from the Middle Atlas, the bright freehand motifs of Azilal rugs from the High Atlas, and the warm pinks and oranges of Boujad rugs from the plains of central Morocco.

Every ZenRug is hand-knotted to order from 100% natural sheep's wool, washed and colored with natural dyes, with a pile of about 3–4 cm (1.2–1.6 in). Weaving takes 4–8 weeks, and you approve photos of your finished rug before it ships. Around fifty women weavers work with us, in Oued Zem, Khenifra, Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains.

Handmade, so no two are exactly alike

A hand-knotted rug is built one knot at a time on an upright loom. Lines lean a little, colors shift between batches of wool, and the size can vary slightly from the order. These are not flaws: they are what separates a handmade rug from a machine-made copy, and why a good Moroccan rug lasts for decades.

Choosing a size

Every rug comes in 9 standard sizes, from 3×5 ft to 10×15 ft, or in a custom size made for your room. In a living room, most people choose an 8×10 or a 9×12 so the front legs of the sofa and chairs rest on the rug. Our size guide shows what works in each room.

Questions, answered

How long does delivery take, and are duties included?

Your rug is woven after you order, in 4–8 weeks, then shipped from Morocco and delivered in 5–8 business days. Shipping is free worldwide, tracked and insured with DHL Express, and duties and taxes are included, so there is nothing to pay on delivery.

Will I see my rug before it ships?

Yes. When your rug is finished, we send you photos of it. You approve them, or tell us what is wrong, before it leaves the workshop.

How is the price calculated?

Each rug is priced by its area: the larger the rug, the higher the price, with a minimum of $250. The price you see for each size, or for your custom size, is the full price you pay.

Do these wool rugs shed?

A new hand-knotted wool rug sheds a few loose fibers in its first weeks, which is normal. Regular vacuuming on low suction removes them, and the shedding settles as the pile beds in.
