Zenrug LLC was founded on a simple belief: that a rug is never just a rug. Every piece we carry is a handmade story from the Atlas Mountains to your home.
Zenrug LLC was born from a deep love of Moroccan craftsmanship and a desire to bring it to the world in an honest, direct way. Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, we work hand-in-hand with women's cooperatives in the Middle and High Atlas Mountains.
Our founder traveled to Morocco and saw firsthand the extraordinary skill and artistry of Berber weavers — and the limited economic opportunities available to them. Zenrug was created to change that: fair partnerships, fair prices, and a direct path from the loom to your living room.
Every rug in our collection is entirely handmade using techniques passed down through generations. No machines, no shortcuts. A single medium-sized rug can take weeks — sometimes months — to complete.
The weavers use natural wool, often hand-spun and dyed with plant-based pigments like saffron, indigo, and madder root. Each imperfection is intentional: it's the signature of the human hand, the mark that distinguishes an authentic piece from anything mass-produced.
Four principles guide everything we do at Zenrug LLC.
Every rug is certified Moroccan origin — hand-knotted or flat-woven by real artisans in the Atlas Mountains. Never mass-produced.
We pay above-market rates directly to women's cooperatives, supporting financial independence and the preservation of Berber craft traditions.
You know where your rug comes from, who made it, and how it was crafted. No middlemen. No mystery supply chains. Just honest trade.
Natural materials, traditional methods, and — in our Boucherouite line — recycled textiles. Rugs built to last decades, not seasons.
